Our Worship Services

Currently we have four worship services at MSUMC.  All of our worship services tend to be relaxed and informal, though they vary from more traditional to contemporary in terms of music, and from relaxed traditional to contemporary to emergent in terms of "feel."

   Sunday Morning Traditional Worship

bullet8:30 AM, "Wildwood Chapel" is a traditional worship service with music predominately from the "revival" period of the mid1800s-mid1900s including "southern gospel" choruses from the 1920s-1970s.  A "country church" feel.

bullet 11:00 AM, "Sure Foundation" is a traditional worship service with hymns from across the history of the church, from Classical periods to modern hymns,  including some selections from the early contemporary movement.

  Sunday Morning Contemporary Worship

bullet

9:45 AM, "RPM Worship" is a contemporary worship service with cutting edge music, including some original praise and worship music.  Worship-enhancing multimedia components are also an integral part of the experience, with various presentations and clips.

Our Childcare / Nursery

We offer nursery care Sunday mornings from 8:15 am - 12:15 pm for Infant - age 4.

There is Sunday School at 9:45 am for ages 3 and up.

You can download our Parent's Brochure here, as well as our more complete policy handbook here.

Childcare is provided by 3 staff, who work in groups of 2-3 to provide quality care.

Sunday School      Teachers Sought

Each week the Sunday School teachers bring lessons of Christ to the children in age-appropriate
ways. These tireless volunteers not only spend an hour each week with our children, but spend
time preparing their lessons. We so appreciate their service and very much respect when they
need a break or would like to rotate off the teaching schedule for a while.

Please prayerfully reflect on your areas of service to the church and the children and families in the
church then consider signing up to assist with a class, being a “back-up” teacher for when we
need a break or taking over a class for a semester or a year. We definitely need some relief teachers
for the summer and will need a new teaching team in the upper elementary class for the fall.

What we Believe about Worship

Most churches would probably agree that God is the focus of worship.  And for Christian worship that God is the Triune God we experience as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  Most churches might even use the word "praise" to describe the particular kind of focus we give God in worship.

We do NOT believe "praise" of God is authentically done by all people in the same way, and we DO believe that Morning Star is called to host worship in ways that help people authentically praise their Lord.

That means we worship in different styles.  That means we value the different styles of worship.  That does NOT mean we never "cross over" or push ourselves to worship in new and meaningful ways ("new" here doesn't just mean contemporary or emergent, but there are "new/unknown" hymns and liturgies that take traditional worshipers to new places), but it does mean we don't force "blending" or champion one style and allow "exceptions."

Another very important thing we believe about worship: it should engage the whole human.  Here we depart from a number of churches within the larger Church.  We believe the emotions should be part of worship.  We think it is dishonest, and frankly missing the beauty, to create worship in which we praise God by being miserable or bored.

Because the great glory of worship is that even as we seek to give to God, the grace of God is given in abundant excess of our praises.  God always outlives us, and this happens in worship.  So worship should be all about God... but worship is also a place in which our needs are met... because God has chosen to use worship to meet our needs.

These are just a few important things about worship at Morning Star we wanted to share with our web visitors.
