Pastor Jon's Family
Jon is married to Melani Daves Moore.
They have two kids: Brishen (age 8) and Basia (age 3).
Pastor Jon's Educational Background
Growing up in Las Cruces, Jon attended Mesilla Valley Christian Schools 1st-12th grade. He spent time at McMurry University, but earned his degree from New Mexico State University in Communication Studies with a Theatre Arts Minor (those show up a lot). His seminary studies were done in Washington, DC, at Wesley Theological Seminary, where he earned a Master of Divinity, summa cum laude, with an emphasis in Biblical Studies.
Pastor Jon's Ministry Background (prior to Morning Star)
While in seminary, Jon pastored two small churches in a two-point charge on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. He spent 3 1/2 years living on Hoopers Island as pastor of Hosier Memorial and Hoopers Memorial United Methodist Churches. Before going to seminary, Jon was Director of the United Campus Ministry at Western New Mexico University in Silver City (1996-1998). During the year in which Jon finished his BA at NMSU, and got married (11 years ago) he was the Youth Director at First UMC in Deming, NM.
As a United Methodist pastor, ministry beyond the local church is an important part of my sense of call and identity.
At this past Annual Conference session I was elected by my clergy colleagues as the 2nd Clergy Reserve to Jurisdictional Conference and General Conference, which means I will be part of New Mexico's delegation to both of those important gatherings.
I am chair of the New Mexico Annual Conference Board of Higher Education and Campus Ministry, chair of the El Paso District Committee on the Superintendency, participant in the Unusual Suspects young clergy leadership incubator, unofficial participant in the Conference Team for Making Disciples, and past chair of the Conference Board of Church and Society.
I love the opportunity to preach, teach, or lead workshops outside of Morning Star, and have also become part of the Emerging Church movement.
