The missions committee explores needs and plans projects, but it's the people of the congregation that make things happen!
Giving Within Our Local Community
We pack and distribute food bags at Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
Through Adopt-a-Child, the congregation purchases Christmas gifts for about 90 children at a local school.
Grant Assistance has helped us provide clothing, shoes, school supplies, hygiene items, and books for needy children.
The Albertson's Community Partners Program enables us to assist Morning Star and community youth.
We assist the NMSU Wesley Foundation by providing occasional meals and supporting other projects.
Giving Beyond Our Local Community
During Lent, we support the Society of St. Andrew (SoSA) through sacrificial giving. Donations help provide gleaned and surplus foods to hungry Americans.
Morning Star has sent Mission Teams to Mexico (Operacion Hogar), the Navajo Reservation in the Four Corners, and the Sacramento Assembly. Teams have built cinderblock houses, laid tile flooring, done painting, construction, and repairs, and conducted Bible studies.
Giving Through Communion-Rail Offering
Each quarter, we designate a recipient for communion-rail offerings. Donations are sent to various local, national, and global agencies.
Recent recipients have included the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), the Children's Reading Foundation, Kairos Prison Ministry, No More Malaria, Roadrunner Food Bank.
