11:00 AM College-Age Class

Topic: A Life Worthy of the Gospel (DVD study on living our ethics). Facilitators: Tom & Cindy Capanna, Ruth Crispell, meets in the classroom at the end of the hall. Begins September 30th.

Sunday School

Each week the Sunday School teachers bring lessons of Christ to the children in age-appropriate ways. These tireless volunteers not only spend an hour each week with our children, but spend time preparing their lessons. We so appreciate their service and very much respect when they need a break or would like to rotate off the teaching schedule for a while.

Please prayerfully reflect on your areas of service to the church and the children and families in the church then consider signing up to assist with a class, being a “back-up” teacher for when we need a break or taking over a class for a semester or a year.

We definitely need some relief teachers for the summer and will need a new teaching team in the upper elementary class for the fall.

Youth Ministry

Our Youth Group, for 6th-12th grades, meets Wednesday nights at 5:30 PM for fun and study before The Lift worship. Our Youth Director, Paul Crispell, leads the group. They also participate in a variety of special events, youth camps, service projects, etc.

We also offer a Youth Sunday School Class at 11 am on Sundays, following our RPM Contemporary worship service.

Music Ministry

	The Morning Star Singers, our Sanctuary Choir, rehearses on Thursday evening at 6:30 pm. If you're interested, come on by!
	Our Live Wire Praise Band rehearses Sunday afternoons from 2:30 to 4:30 pm. They provide music and worship leadership for our contemporary services (some members lead both Wed. and Sun., others just one or the other).
	The Children's Bell Choir, a combined choir with kids from Morning Star and University UMC across town, will be restarting soon.
	The Adult Bell Choir at University UMC has just become a combined choir with a couple members from Morning Star. They practice on Sunday evenings.
	The Youth Bell Choir at University UMC is also open to participation by Morning Star youth. They rehearse on Sunday afternoons. We are excited to begin another music ministry at Morning Star by adding a Hand Bell Choir.

	There are lots of opportunities for soloists and ensembles to share their musical gifts at Morning Star, whether during worship or at special events or talent shows. Talk to Nancy Hastings, our Choir Director, if you are interested.

Prayer Group

The Morning Star Prayer Group is currently doing the "Living Prayer" study through the Upper Room. The group meets Wednesday afternoons at 1 pm in the Church Library. Mike Trumbull is the current group facilitator.

Book Club

The Morning Star Book Club meets here on third Mondays from 4:00-5:00 pm. Please call Stephanie in the church office (521-3770) if you are interested in participating, and to find out what book the group is currently reading, or will be reading.

Senior Singles Fellowship Group

This montly fellowship group meets once per month for lunch on 2nd Mondays.

Hiking Group

Our Saturday morning hiking group has gone on a number of adventures in the area over the last year. We live in such a superb place for hiking and outdoor recreation in Las Cruces! If you would like to receive hike alerts, group leader Vern Smith sends them out via email. Email the church office if you'd like to be added to his list.

Quilters

A group meets the 1st and 3rd Mondays, from 1-4 pm, to make quilts for those in our community with need. Come join the fun. No experience necessary!

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly)

This Weight Loss group meets on Thursday evenings at 5:30 pm at Morning Star. Cheryl Howard is the contact person.

United Methodist Men

The Men's Ministry of Morning Star is growing and doing new things. Our regular events include:

	Men's Bible Study, Tuesday mornings at 8:15 am in the Youth Room. They are in a study on Romans.
	Men's Breakfast Fellowship, Third Saturdays of every month, with eats beginning at 8 am (cook crew arrives at 7 am). Share food, fellowship, and some type of program or "field trip" or service project or something.

Special events include outdoor activities, sports, mission projects, and other "expeditions."

New Small Groups are coming into existence all the time! Do you see a need, have an idea, or hear the Spirit's call to lead one? Let us hear about it!
