Building Committee Update

Your building committee's design team is nearing the completion of the
"architect selection" phase of our process. Once that is completed,
the architect will put together a revised concept drawing based on the
design team's work. That revised concept will be shared with the congregation
in a set of "town hall" meetings, with opportunities to clarify and perfect
the floor plans. We anticipate some adjustments to the preliminary
expansion plans that were published last year, but the stated needs of
increasing worship and classroom space remain at the center of our work.
Once the congregation has been given sufficient opportunities for feedback,
the building team will work with the architect to integrate that input and
move forward with the detail drawings. At that point the finance team will
analyze the costs and the current commitments made to the building fund,
along with possible phasing plans, and we will move forward based on that analysis.

Building Committee Report

The Building Committee met on February 5, 2008 and elected Mary Anne Schantz as Chair.

The Design Team, led by Homer Brown, expressed concerns of building cost and the fees for only planning, architects, as well as cost of a sprinkler system and an elevator in the education building. After discussion, the Design Team decided to proceed with the sanctuary expansion, to enlarge the existing nursery and add a unisex handicap accessible bathroom compliant with ADA requirements.
Upon completion of that phase, plans will be made to begin construction of the education building based on the financial status of the building campaign funds at that time.
Communications Team Report by Colleen Wismer: the building committee was presented with a copy of the needs analysis to review. This will be the basis of the report to be generated for the proposed facilities and presented to the District Committee.
A short discussion of membership and attendance was held in relation to the possible increase of population due to the proposed increase of White Sands Missile Range.
The communications team will be responsible for getting reports to the congregations as we move forward in this exciting phase of Morning Star’s development. A website soon will be available for your question to be answered about the building and construction at Morning Star.
